About PSS

Piedmont Soaring Society was founded by 5 soaring pilots and organized in October 1999 under an old live oak tree located on the Bahnson Farm in Farmington, North Carolina. The field today is officially known on the aeronautical charts as 43NC.

PSS is an incorporated club and operates as a not-for-profit corporation. Our mission is to provide a location for members and soaring enthusiasts to enjoy the sport of soaring. As a club we provide several benefits including flight equipment, tows, and flight instruction. In addition we offer introductory flights for those persons interested in experiencing soaring or joining our club. All introductory flights are required to be conducted by FAA licensed commercial pilots.

Visiting soaring pilots are welcome and services are available to launch their own ships. We require a field check out, review of club operations and a completed daily membership application.

Our club always welcomes visitors, so come, have a look around the facilities and watch the flying before you take your first flight. You may want to email or telephone us first to check if we are flying. Upon arrival, please check in with the operations person who will give you information that will ensure your visit is pleasurable and safe. For safety reasons we do not allow dogs on the field and children must be supervised at all times.

We look forward to flying with you!
